Get ready for colour, charisma and just the right amount of chaos, because this summer the parrots are back! At this evening class we will be joined by a rainbow of ravishing macaws and charming lorikeets, each of whom has a personality which is as bright and lively as their feathers.
Parrots are known for their intelligence, their long lives (current record holder is Cookie the cockatoo at 82 years old!) and their deep and lasting bonds with partners, and humans! All the birds attending the class have been rescued or rehomed, and are confident and comfortable around humans. As we draw, we will be chatting about parrot conservation around the world and how we can get involved to help.
We will be drawing Hugo and Hamish, two Blue and Gold Macaw brothers, and a yellow crowned Amazon parrot named Beta, who was adopted after hatching out and lovingly hand reared. And bringing the most vibrant palette will be Rainbow Lorikeets Billie and Nicki, rehomed and living happily together after previously being kept on their own – almost all parrots are social flock animals and need the company of their own kind.
Artist Jennie Webber will begin the session with an introduction to drawing moving models, and some fun warm-up exercises to get your drawings off to a flying start. No prior art experience is needed to join the session- whether you’re a dab hand or an absolute beginner, we will have you sketching away in no time. The aim of our classes is to use drawing as a tool to learn about animals and conservation- there is no pressure to create a “perfect” portrait. We will provide a range of art materials, paper and drawing boards for you to use so no need to bring anything along.
Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Wild Life Drawing. We are a small team of animal lovers who are dedicated to conservation, and we strive to make each of our classes a positive experience for the animals we draw. We only ever work with the finest handlers who treat their animals with respect and care, and animals who are healthy and happy being around humans.
10% of your ticket price will go to The World Parrot Trust to support the conservation of wild parrots.
Please note: Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be moved to another class, but can be transferred to another name- just get in touch to let us know who will be attending. We do sometimes have waiting lists for sessions, so if the class you have tickets for is sold out and you can’t make it, please email info@wildlifedrawing.co.uk with as much notice as possible and we will try our best to re-allocate your tickets. If we are able to do so you will be given a credit for another class.
