Who said dragons were only in fairy stories? Join us for a class where we get to know a species which is a real-life legend, the Komodo Dragon. Originally evolving in Australia, these mega beasts now inhabit Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands. With their strong bodies measuring up to 3m, super scent-sensing forked tongues and their iron-tipped (yes, iron-tipped) serrated teeth, komodos really are like something from a fantasy book. So let’s sort the fact from the fiction and learn all about the biggest lizards on Earth!

We’re delighted to be teaming up with the Komodo Survival Programme for this class, and will be joined by the charity’s senior researcher Achmad Ariefiandy. This wonderful charity is on a mission to protect the Komodo through field research, population monitoring and local community engagement and education projects. We can’t wait to hear about Achmad’s adventures studying these mighty creatures, and there will be time for plenty of your questions, too.

The class will be hosted by artist and wildlife enthusiast Jennie Webber, who will demonstrate the unique step-by-step process she has developed in her more than 10 years of teaching people to draw animals. The class is open to all abilities, and there’s no pressure to work in a particular style. The basic materials you need to take part are some paper, a pencil, a sharpener and a rubber- but please feel free to work in whichever materials you enjoy using. We will send you an email before the session, which will contain a Zoom link and all the information you need. After the class, we will send all ticket holders a recording so you can catch up/ rewatch as many times as you like.

50% of profits will be donated to the Komodo Survival Programme.
