Our online Christmas special this year is sure to fill your heart with festive cheer. We will be live-streaming to sunny Western Australia to meet two very handsome young dromedary camels, Banjo and Clancy. During the 18th century, British colonists brought camels to Australia from India and the Middle East to use for transport and exploration of the arid interior of the country. After the development of cars and trucks, most of these camels were released, which led to a large feral population that now numbers nearly a million.
Our ebullient models are two rescues from a camel dairy. They were taken in by our wonderful guest Jan Taylor, who is the founder and CEO of Animal Aid Abroad. Jan set up her charity in 2007 to help raise the welfare of working animals around the world. She and her team have had a huge influence in raising the living standards of working animals like camels, donkeys by providing veterinary care, equipment, education and providing homes to as many retired animals as they can in their partner sanctuary.
The session will be live-streamed from Jan’s farm, where we will hang out with Banjo and Clancy (and any of the other animals that might fancy a moment in the spotlight). These two boys are SO charming and gorgeous, we can’t wait for you to meet them. Their bond with Jan is so beautiful, and they love nothing more than a good scratch and a stroke, so expect lots of endorphin-boosting cuddly close-ups.
While we sketch, Jan will teach us all about camels, talk about her charity work, and advise us on avoiding contributing to animal exploitation when travelling.
The session will be hosted by artist Jennie Webber, who will provide plenty of tips and tricks on how to capture the camels on your page, in all their humpy bumpy glory. This morning class (for those in Europe) would be lovely opportunity get the family together for a bit of drawing – homemade Christmas cards anyone?
50% of profits will be donated to Animal Aid Abroad.
