Event Details

For our first November class we will be drawing a team of loveable ducks and chickens from the local Spitalfields City Farm. Although these iconic animals are found in many a children's book and fairytale, these birds are often overlooked – but they all have their own individual personalities and cheeky characters! We will be meeting and drawing two rare breeds of duck – Shetlands and White Campbells – as well as Indian Runner ducks (the ones that stand up straight like penguins!) Accompanying them will be a rescue Sussex Cross cockerel, Sebrights and a range of hens that have been re-homed from the British Hen Welfare Trust

We will be joined by Ben Wickham – a volunteer for the British Hen Welfare Trust and a dedicated hen owner – who will be talking about the egg production industry and hen welfare in the UK. We will be getting advice from the British Hen Welfare Trust on egg labelling and will hear about the wonderful work they do saving ex-commercial hens from slaughter and re-homing them so they can go on and enjoy a free range retirement. And of course 10% of the price of each ticket will be donated to the BHWT.

The drawing class is open to all, from beginners to advanced. Children aged 12 and above are welcome if accompanied by an adult partaking in the class. All drawing materials are supplied, including paper and drawing boards, but please feel free to bring colours or any other specific media you might like to use. Drawing tips and guidance will be provided throughout the session, with an in-depth demonstration of how to draw animals from life at the beginning of the class. The aim of these drawing classes is to inspire a sense of appreciation and understanding for the animals and their conservation in the wider world.

Wild Life Drawing is working with the finest animal handlers, sanctuaries and organisations to put on these events. All the animals that attend the sessions are well used to humans and different environments and are always accompanied by experienced handlers, their welfare is our highest priority. We have been working closely with Spitalfields City Farm to create a safe and interactive environment for these animals when at the drawing class, and we'll be bringing a pond for the ducks!
