Dive in and join us for our next underwater adventure, where we’ll be shining the spotlight on one of the ocean’s most ancient and awe-inspiring residents: the sea turtle! These remarkable reptiles have been navigating Earth’s oceans for over 100 million years. Of the seven species of sea turtles, many—including the green sea turtle—are now endangered due to threats like climate change, pollution, and habitat loss. Green sea turtles, named not for their shell colour but for the green layer of fat beneath it (caused by their herbivorous diet), are known for their graceful swimming and gentle nature. SEA LIFE London is home to two rescued green sea turtles: Boris and Gonzales (nicknamed Dougie), who arrived through a rescue initiative in the Cayman Islands. They now thrive in the largest Ocean Tank, sharing their space with a vibrant array of marine species — including Zebby the zebra shark, cute cow-nose rays and shoals of colourful fish.
The after-hours session will begin with an engaging talk from the aquarium team, highlighting global sea turtle conservation efforts and discussing the impacts of climate change, plastic pollution, and commercial fishing on these incredible creatures.
Artist Jennie Webber will get you started with some of her top tips for drawing from swimming models. No prior art experience is needed to join the session- whether you’re a dab hand or an absolute beginner, we will have you sketching away in no time. The aim of our classes is to use drawing as a tool to learn about animals and conservation- there is no pressure to create a “perfect” portrait! We will provide a range of art materials, paper and drawing boards for you to use, so no need to bring anything along, but if you have some trusty favourites that you enjoy using you are welcome to bring them.
50% of your ticket price will go to the aquarium's partner charity SEA LIFE Trust which has several marine conservation projects around the world, including the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and Puffin Rescue Centre in Iceland, and The Cornish Seal Sanctuary here in the UK.
Please note: Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be moved to another class, but can be transferred to another name- just get in touch to let us know who will be attending. We do sometimes have waiting lists for sessions, so if the class you have tickets for is sold out and you can’t make it, please email info@wildlifedrawing.co.uk with as much notice as possible and we will try our best to re-allocate your tickets. If we are able to do so you will be given a credit for another class.
