Nearly 40 years ago, a wonderful woman named Jan Taylor attended a livestock market. After witnessing the treatment of animals there, she decided to make a difference and set up the Farm Animal Sanctuary. This haven for animals now spans 86 acres and is home to over 600 animals. Over the years the small team there have rescued thousands of cows, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, and donkeys from neglect and mistreatment.

This Spring, join us online with farm manager Louise and animal welfare assistant Steph, for a live class celebrating the sanctuary and all its residents. We’ll be taken on a virtual tour to meet some of the biggest characters of the bunch; like lambs Bonnie and Bobby, who were abandoned in a field but thankfully found and brought to the sanctuary, where they are growing cheekier every day. We will get a mindfulness lesson from Buster the bull, who is as chill as they come- quite the contrast to the raging bull stereotype! Then we will trot over to the pig area to meet best friends Mabel and Twiglet, who will likely model their best snoozing positions for us. We will meet lots of other animals too- this will mainly be determined by who is feeling curious and fancies giving the camera a sniff!

Artist and illustrator Laura Cuppage will lead the session, beginning with her top tips on how to draw moving animals. She will provide plenty of creative guidance throughout and will be all ears for any creative queries that you have. Likewise, the farm team will be happy to answer any questions about our marvellous moo-dels.

The class is open to all abilities, and there’s no pressure to work in a particular style. The basic materials you need to take part are some paper, a pencil, a sharpener and a rubber- but please feel free to use whichever materials you like. We will send you an email before the session which will contain a Zoom link and all the information you need. After the class, we will send all ticket holders a recording so you can catch up/ rewatch as many times as you like.

50% of profits will be donated to Farm Animal Sanctuary
