The coastlines of the British Isles are home to some truly fascinating species, many of which might surprise you. Atlantic Wolfish prefer very cold water and have a natural anti-freeze in their blood to keep it flowing when temperatures drop below zero. Nurse Sharks can reach a whopping 14 feet long but (you’ll be pleased to hear) are known for their docile nature. Small Spotted Catsharks are one of the species you can thank when you find a mermaid’s purse on the beach. These are their egg cases, which they attach to seaweed with those lovely curly tendrils. Join us to draw all these species and many more, at a serene and dreamy after-hours session at the aquarium.

We’ll dive right in with a talk from one of the aquarium’s marine experts, who will point out all the beautiful species that live in our native waters. We’ll learn about the U.K's best snorkelling spots, as well as about why it's never been more important to ensure that our fishing practices are sustainable. The class will be led by artist Jennie Webber, who will help you get into the flow of things with a drawing demo and her top tips on sketching moving marine animals. You will then be free to float about the place, sketching whichever species catch your eye.

Our classes are open to all artistic abilities. We are firm believers that drawing is for everyone, and we celebrate all artistic styles! The focus of the session will be to enjoy the creative process while learning about animals and conservation. We will provide everything you need to get sketching- drawing boards, paper and a range of materials- but you’re welcome to bring along your sketchbook and kit if you’d like to.

Here at Wild Life Drawing we are a small team who are dedicated to animal welfare. We only ever work with the finest animal handlers, who treat their animals with care and respect, and healthy animals who are happy being around humans. 50% of your ticket price will be donated to the aquarium’s partner charity SEA Life Trust to support their work protecting marine life around the world.
