Let’s take a virtual trip down to Cornwall to catch up with our much-beloved pals, the sweet ’n’ salty residents of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!
When we’ve drawn with CSS before we’ve focused on the pups, but we thought it was high time to give the adults some attention, so we will be drawing some of the residents who for various reasons, aren’t able to be released back into the wild. Like Yulelog for example, who previously lived at a different facility, which released him back to the sea when they closed down. As this lad has been fed by humans all his life, once back in the wild, he didn’t have the instincts needed and was following children with buckets around the beach! Luckily, the RSPCA brought him to CSS, where he has a home for life.
We will also meet a female named Jinx and a male called Pumpkin. These two both have medical conditions which mean they wouldn’t survive in the wild. Then there’s sweet Marlin, who like Yulelog is too tame and reliant to be humans to be safe in the wild. This chap is the sanctuary’s most gentle and good-natured resident.
We will be given a tour of the sanctuary by the expert care team and will get to watch the seals from a few different angles. We think you’ll particularly love watching them from the underwater viewing point, as here we will observe them doing what they do best: swimming! The seals are so effortless and graceful in the water; it’s such a treat to watch.
The class is open to all abilities so whether you haven’t drawn since school or you draw on the daily, you’ll get loads out of the session. The basic materials you need to take part are some paper, a pencil, a sharpener and a rubber, but if you’d like to experiment with other materials, please feel free to get creative! We will email you an event link along with some instructions before the event. As with all our online sessions, we'll send out a recording of the class afterwards so that you can watch it back as many times as you like.
