Event Details

In February we'll be taking wing and flying down to Brighton, and bringing along the most unusual members of our flock. Join us to get up close and personal with three species of raptor, all of which have taken particularly interesting evolutionary paths. First we’ll encounter Fred, a mesmerising Great Grey Owl. These are one of the largest species of owl on earth and have a distinctive “satellite dish” of feathers surrounding their face, which make them highly adept at locating prey- even when it's hiding under thick snow. Then we will meet Mauve, a hooded vulture. Being scavengers, vultures get a bad rap- often portrayed as vicious and dirty creatures, In fact they are intelligent and highly social, and are nature’s cleaners! Without them around to tidy up, their environments would fall into disease and squalor. Our final bird will remain a mystery for now… but rest assured, you’ll be wowed!

The session will be hosted by artist Laura Cuppage, who will be joined by experienced falconer Paul Green. We’ll take off with some warm-up exercises, which will give you a chance to stretch your wings. Then while we get into the sketching, Paul will introduce the birds in turn. He will point out each bird’s most unique adaptations, and will answer any questions that you have.

Our sessions are open to everyone- all abilities are welcome and all artistic styles are celebrated! We will provide everything you need to get sketching- drawing boards, paper and a wide range of materials- but feel free to bring along your own kit if you’d like.

Here at Wild Life Drawing we are a small team who are dedicated to animal welfare. We only ever work with the finest animal handlers, who treat their animals with care and respect, and healthy animals that are comfortable being around humans. The falconer who keeps these birds is a trusted and experienced specialist who works with the RSPCA to rescue, rehabilitate and re-release wild birds of prey around the South of England.

10% of profits will be donated to Vulpro

Please note: Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be moved to another class, but can be transferred to another name- just get in touch to let us know who will be attending. If we can, you will be given a credit for another class.
