We are delighted to be teaming up with our friends at Jaguar Rescue Centre over in Costa Rica, for a live class with majestic Macaws! If you’re not a fan of public displays of affection this one might not be for you, because the two parrots who we will be drawing are head over heels in love! They are Scarlett, a scarlett macaw, and Pannetone, a great green, and they have an inseparable bond. Both these two sustained injuries early in life which meant they weren’t able to be released back to the wild. They now spend their days canoodling, causing mischief and representing the sanctuary as ambassadors to raise awareness of the harm caused to wild parrot populations by the illegal animal trade. As this will be a live class we can expect lots of lovely close ups of the parrots, as well as the odd visit from some of the more inquisitive of the other animals who live at the sanctuary. We may spot a white tailed deer or even a brown booby!
The class will be hosted by nature illustrator Jennie Webber, who will begin with a colourful drawing demonstration and some top tips on drawing moving models. We will also be joined by Noelia from JRC who will teach us all about this fascinating species group, and the issues facing them in the wild. There will be plenty of time for your questions too, so by the end of the session you’ll not only have some beautiful sketches but will have gained a wider understanding of these beautiful animals.
The class is open to people of all artistic abilities. Whether you’re a dab hand or an absolute beginner, with a bit of creative guidance we will have you sketching away in no time! The basic materials you need to take part are paper, a pencil, eraser and sharpener, but of course you are more than welcome to work in whatever materials you enjoy or have to hand. And just so you know, we will send out a recording of the session to all ticket holders after it takes place, so you can rewatch as many times as you like!
50% of profits will be donated to Jaguar Rescue Centre to support their crucial work protecting the native species of Costa Rica.
