Wild Life Drawing: Sharks and Rays

Dive into the blue with us at a serene after-hours drawing session at the SEA Life Brighton Aquarium, drawing spectacular Sharks and ravishing Rays. These two ancient types of fish are related by common ancestors who swam the seas 400 million years ago. We will learn all about both species, their similarities and the adaptive differences between them. Although we will be focusing on the sharks and rays, you will have free reign to wander through the space, taking in the turtles, ogling the octopi and eyeing up the eels to your heart's content.

The class will begin with a talk from one of the marine experts at the aquarium, who will provide plenty of fascinating facts. Artist Laura Cuppage will then get you started with some of her top tips for drawing from life. No prior art experience is needed to join the session- wether you’re a dab hand or an absolute beginner we are confident that with a bit of creative guidance we will have to sketching away in no time. The aim of our classes is to use drawing as a tool to learn about animals and conservation- there is no pressure to create a “perfect” portrait! We will provide a range of art materials, paper and drawing boards for you to use, so no need to bring anything along, but if you have some trusty favourites that you enjoy using you’re welcome to bring them.

We are a small team of animal lovers who are dedicated to conservation, and we strive to make each of our classes a positive experience for the animals we draw. We only ever work with the finest handlers who treat their animals with respect and care, and animals who are healthy and happy being around humans. 50% of your ticket price will go to the aquarium and its partner charity SEA LIFE Trust, to help them continue with their important work protecting marine habitats across the world.
