Do you have a keen eye and a love of long dogs? If so, this class will be paw-fect for you. We will be at The Depot on Saturday 17th June sketching all kinds of sighthounds- think gorgeous greyhounds, wonderful whippets and lovely lurchers. All our models will be happily re-homed hounds and ex-racers, accompanied by their kind owners who will be willing to share their adoption stories. With their sleek shapes and lithe limbs, these breeds have been inspiring artists for centuries, and now it’s our turn to have a go!

The class will begin with an introduction and drawing demo by artist and illustrator Jennie Webber, who will be focussing on how to capture the personality and individuality of each dog- and there will be plenty of time for strokes and snuggles!  While we draw, we will discuss the issues surrounding greyhound racing, and will delve in to the fascinating history of this breed.

No prior art experience is needed to join the session- whether you’re a dab hand or an absolute beginner we will have to sketching away in no time! The aim of our classes is to use drawing as a tool to learn more about animals and conservation, and there is no pressure to create a “perfect” portrait! We will provide a range of art materials, paper and drawing boards for you to use, so no need to bring anything along, but if you have some trusty favourites that you enjoy using you’re very welcome to bring them.

Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Wild Life Drawing. We are a small team of animal lovers who are dedicated to nature, and we strive to make each of our classes a positive experience for the animals we draw. We always work with the finest handlers who treat their animals with respect and care, and animals who are healthy and happy being around humans. For this class we are inviting dogs along that are beloved family pets, and that are happy around humans and comfortable around other dogs, with plenty of treats and toys to keep them occupied. Each dog will be accompanied by their owner at all times, who will be giving their time for free – hopefully in return for a few pet portraits.

£12 from each ticket will be donated to the Greyhound Trust.
