We are totally flipping out for this upcoming live online class! We will be drawing two amazing Beluga Whales.  These cetaceans are extremely sociable and live, hunt and migrate in pods. Their bulbous foreheads are called “melons” and can change shape, allowing them to make different facial expressions! They are also known for their amazingly varied language of chirps, clicks, whistles and squeals, which they use to communicate with one another.

For this live online class we will be visiting the SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland. We will draw two very special belugas- Little Grey and Little White, who are the first residents of this one of a kind sea sanctuary. These two beauties used to live at a Shanghai water park, and were relocated - travelling 6000 miles- to the sanctuary where they will live out their lives with as close to a natural life as possible. Along with drawing the whales, we will follow the expert care team as they carry out daily health checks and will hopefully get to watch the girls being fed! The team will tell us all about how the sanctuary was started, and the long term plan to become a forever home to more rescued belugas.

The class with be lead by artist and wildlife enthusiast Laura Cuppage who will begin with a drawing demo to get you started. We will be drawing the belugas as they move about their pool freely (they can’t yet be in the open water as their bodies aren’t acclimatised to Icelandic winter temperatures) but will also have some reference images on hand incase the girls go out of shot. We will be shown around the sanctuary by one of the expert members of the team, who will be happy to answer your questions, and will have lots of brilliant beluga facts to share throughout the session.

The class is open to people of all artistic abilities. The basic materials you need to take part are paper, a pencil, eraser and sharpener, but of course you are more than welcome to work in whatever materials you enjoy or have to hand. Please get in touch if you need advice on materials, we’re happy to help! You will be emailed the reference images, instructions and the Zoom link to join 48 hours before the event is due to start, or in good time if you booked your ticket closer to the event.

50% of ticket profits will go to SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary.
