Ready, get “sett” for badgers! This November we are excited to sketch this misunderstood and mysterious native species. Badgers spend 70% of their time underground, and mainly come out during the night. They are highly intelligent, social animals who like to keep their large underground homes in good order. They change their grassy bedding daily, and have separate bathrooms outside their burrows!

We are delighted to say we will be joined online by Elaine Rainey from Scottish Badgers, who will be teaching us all about this wonderful species, and the important work the charity does to protect the badgers of Scotland. Road collisions, habitat destruction and deliberate harm caused by humans are the big issues facing these animals. Scottish Badgers are currently campaigning for a full ban of the use of snares, as these cruel traps cause painful deaths to many badgers each year.

The class with be lead by artist and wildlife enthusiast Laura Cuppage who will begin with her top badger drawing tips. We will be working from some beautiful reference images. As the session progresses, Laura will be on hand with creative guidance. Elaine will be happy to answer your questions, and will give some practical advice on how to get involved with the conservation of this beautiful native species.

The basic materials you need to take part are paper, a pencil, eraser and sharpener, but of course you are more than welcome to work in whatever materials you enjoy or have to hand. Please get in touch if you need advice on materials, we’re happy to help! You will be emailed the reference images, instructions and the Zoom link to join 48 hours before the event is due to start, or in good time if you booked your ticket closer to the event.

50% of ticket profits will go to Scottish Badgers.
