Join us to draw juvenile sloths on our next virtual visit to the Jaguar Rescue Centre in the rainforests of Costa Rica. Now we've met the babies before, but this is chance to see the rescued sloths at their next 'high school' stage where they are a little bigger, stronger and are learning how to be sloths by sourcing their own food, climbing around and defending themselves. Delightfully, we'll be able to check in with Rufo and Dominika, two of the little babies we drew early last year that have since 'graduated' to this next stage. We'll be spending time sketching from a live Zoom link with the sanctuary and hearing from our resident expert Luis all about sloths; their curious evolutionary characteristics and the dangers that affect sloths in the wild, as well as answering all your questions.
Jaguar Rescue is an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre based on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, a country known for it's unique wildlife and pioneering efforts in the battle against climate change. The centre specialises in caring for sloths, primates, big cats and all other mammals, birds and reptiles that have been injured by traffic accidents or other human conflict, electrocuted by poorly insulated power lines or affected by the illegal trade in wildlife. Their main aim is to re-release the animals back into their natural habitat, and providing a forever home only to those that would not survive in the wild.
The class will begin with an introduction from WLD founder and artist Jennie Webber who will be talking you through the basics of observational drawing and providing a sloth-focussed drawing demonstration detailing the shapes, proportions and anatomical features to identify. All ages and artistic ability levels are welcome (especially beginners!) and Jennie will be on hand to demo, feedback or dish out creative advice throughout the whole session.
The basic materials you need to take part are paper, a pencil, eraser and sharpener, but of course you are more than welcome to work in whatever materials you enjoy or have to hand. Please get in touch if you need advice on materials, we're happy to help! You will be emailed instructions and the Zoom link to join 48 hours before the event is due to start. If you have not received your email 24 hours before the class please check your junk mail or get in touch with Jennie on info@wildlifedrawing.co.uk
50% of the ticket profits will be donated to the Jaguar Rescue Centre.
