Prepare yourselves for a cuteness overload because our next live online class comes live from Australia, and we're drawing Baby Wombats. These feisty, independent-minded marsupials start out measuring less than 3cm when born and then spend between 5 and 10 months developing in their mother’s pouch. Once they’re old enough they begin to venture out into the world, where they pick up tips from mum on how to forage for the roots, herbs, bark and grasses they eat, and learn how to build the underground burrows wombats live in. Unfortunately, many mother wombats are killed in road traffic accidents, with their babies still alive in their pouches – which is where ACT Wildlife comes in, a charity that cares for Australia's native species aiming to rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild.

We are so excited to have ACT Wildlife’s director, Lindy (or “Crazy Wombat Lady” as she’s known on Instagram) joining us to discuss the fantastic work that her and her team do over in Australia caring for sick, injured and orphaned indigenous species. We will be on a live zoom connection with two baby wombats of different ages currently being cared for by the dedicated 'surrogate' mums, giving you a chance to see them at different stages of development from pink and furless to the “velvet” stage when their first fur comes in and they begin to look more like wombats! Lindy will be on hand to answer all your wombat questions and give us some fascinating facts – including more info on their square poo!

The class will begin with an introduction from WLD founder and artist Jennie Webber, who will take you through the basics of drawing wombats from life. We'll then switch screens to meet Lindy for an introduction to wombats and the complex care programs that the dedicated volunteers at ACT Wildlife use to rehabilitate these sweet little furries. There will be a drawing demonstration of the shapes, proportions and anatomical features to identify in wombats and Jennie will be on hand to demo, feedback or dish out creative advice throughout the whole session. We'll be chatting about wombats and Australia's unique wildlife throughout the class and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

The basic materials you need to take part are paper, a pencil, eraser and sharpener, but of course you are more than welcome to work in whatever materials you enjoy or have to hand. Please get in touch if you need advice on materials, we're happy to help! You will be emailed instructions and the Zoom link to join 48 hours before the event is due to start, or in good time if you booked your ticket closer to the event. If you have not received your email 24 hours before the class please check your junk mail or get in touch with Jennie on info@wildlifedrawing.co.uk

50% of your ticket price will be donated to ACT Wildlife.
