Event Details

Delighted to announce our Easter special, where we'll be meeting and drawing the many newly hatched chicks on Vauxhall City Farm this Spring. We'll be drawing Leg Bar chicks, bright yellow Buff Orpington’s and some little Dutch Bantums. These baby birds will not only be impossibly cute to draw, but will also provide us with an opportunity to talk about the egg production industry and hen welfare in the UK. We will be getting advice from two dedicated volunteers and campaigners for the British Hen Welfare Trust on egg labelling and will hear about the wonderful work they do saving ex-commercial hens from slaughter and re-homing them so they can go on and enjoy a free range retirement. Our volunteers will be bringing along one of their rescue hens, local celebrity Paula – and will be telling her story, how she came to them timid and bald – now beautifully feathered with bags of personality!

10% of the price of each ticket will be donated to the BHWT. And of course it goes without saying that the chicks and ducklings we'll be drawing will live their full and happy lives on the city farm. We will also be talking through the growth process of these baby birds and how they develop into adult chickens and ducks. This will be a lovely, insightful drawing class – I would recommend bringing your yellow paints!

The drawing class is open to all, from beginners to advanced. All drawing materials are supplied, including paper and drawing boards, but please feel free to bring colours or any other specific media you might like to use. Drawing tips and guidance will be provided throughout the session. This will be an indoor drawing class, taking place in the warm and comfortable Old Dairy events space on site on the farm. The aim of these drawing classes is to inspire a sense of appreciation and understanding for the animals and their conservation in the wider world.

Wild Life Drawing is working with the finest animal handlers, sanctuaries and organisations to put on these events. All the animals that attend the sessions are well used to humans and different environments and are always accompanied by experienced handlers, their welfare is our highest priority.

This class is slightly more expensive than most due to accounting for the out-of-hours charges on the farm, which is totally within their rights and not too bad considering all their profits go back into the farm itself!

Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferable to another name. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with Jennie on: info@wildlifedrawing.co.uk
